Today Canada celebrates 150 years as a country. Compared to other nations it’s about at the toddler stage, but to Canadians, this birthday is a biggie. Clothing, camp chairs, toys, towels, plates…anything that can display “Canada 150” is available for purchase. It was a pleasure to discover a couple of tiny gardens designed to honour the occasion.
Like a garden, if properly tended, this country can produce good things. To reap an excellent harvest requires planning and diligent work. We need wise and qualified people making decisions. Proverbs 29:2 says, “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice.” (KJV)
Like a young child, the nation will benefit from Father God’s guidance. Leaders can act with human reasoning. Solomon advised against relying on our own insight and understanding. He encouraged man to trust in the wisdom of God to direct our concerns. (Proverbs 3:5,6)
In the same way that the Holy Spirit guides individual believers, we can look to God to lead our nations. As citizens of our various countries, we can pray for and support God-fearing statesmen. What a blessing to experience the peace and joy of God’s kingdom in spite of what is taking place around us in this world. Every individual has influence. Each nation as a whole reflects what its unique members contribute. Together we can work to maintain safe and beautiful areas in which to live.
Whether considering a tiny garden or an entire country, the land is ours to care for.
